About HuffBusters

.
The purpose of HuffBusters is to act as a central repository for factual information concerning the political blogsite Huffington Post (“HuffPost”).

Since HuffPost debuted in May 2005, many allegations have been made against it, particularly regarding its headlines and headline-imagery, how it covers stories and issues, what its bloggers and users say, and how its comment threads are moderated. Now that HuffPost is no longer just a "blog," but is the #1 political website, and has access to and influence over the top echelons of our government, it is more important than ever to hold it up to a critical analysis.

HuffBusters separates fact from fiction, and provides its readers with thoroughly-researched, abundantly-documented data, upon which they will be able to base informed opinions.

Mini-FAQ

What is HuffBusters' beef with HuffPost?

On a general basis, if you peruse the table of contents on the right margin, HuffBusters' motivations should be self-explanatory, and self-validating.

On a practical level, with the partial exception of a 2007 report by the Media Research Center, no one else has been conducting focused, in-depth, ongoing analysis of the way HuffPost:
  • Operates its site

  • Presents and spins content

  • Foments and approves* hateful user comments --- particularly related to Jewish and Israeli issues (* more here)

  • Uses its influence to shape our culture's perceptions of critical public affairs
Both nature and the free market abhor vacuums. HuffBusters was born to fill this particular, niche vacuum.

Isn't HuffBusters trying to squelch free speech?

T
his is not a matter of free speech. HuffPost and its users are free to say whatever they want.

The marketplace, and possibly law enforcement agencies (here, here), however, have the right to hold HuffPost and its users accountable for what the latter submits, and the former decides to approve* for publishing on its site
(*more here).

HuffBusters seems sarcastic in some areas. Why?

This blogsite is focused primarily on facts and substance. Occasionally, a writer's opinions are allowed to augment the framing of irrefutable evidence --- but never as a substitute for it.

(Note: This stands in stark contrast to the means by which HuffPost itself uses vulgarity, hate and hysteria to frame some of its content, particularly on its notorious "Dickipedia" site; more here and here)

Why are you doing this anonymously? Doesn't that diminish HuffBusters' credibility?

The writers who appear on HuffBusters have the choice of whether or not to use their actual identities.

Those who are familiar with how HuffPost operates also know that there are very good reasons for its critics' desire to keep their identities secret. (The facts and proof concerning this admittedly troubling assertion may well be revealed at some point in the future.)

Those who contribute to this blog urge readers to let the facts we present speak for themselves, independent of personality-type distractions.
